QUT's Faculty of Health currently has over 5000 students enrolled in some of the best undergraduate, postgraduate and research courses available in Australia. It is one of eight Faculties within the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The latest developments in industry collaboration, community service, research and innovation can be found in the latest issue of Best of Health Magazine.

Unique Courses

Faculty of Health Courses offer hands-on clinical and practical placements that provide students with real world skills and experience. As a result, students create vital contacts with industry and prospective employers. The Faculty has close involvement with industry, community, government and professionals, and designs the most relevant curriculum for students to prepare them for the real world. QUT is the only university in Queensland to offer degrees in Optometry and Podiatry, and was the first in Queensland to offer a degree in Paramedics.

Research and Innovation

The Faculty is focused on developing programs and research that make a direct and significant impact on the community and to our daily lives.  Recently, QUT was awarded National Health and Medical Research Council Grants to fund research projects which will improve health and medical outcomes for Australians.

The Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety - Queensland (CARRS-Q) conducts groundbreaking research in the area of road safety, working in collaboration with such agencies as the Queensland Police Service and the New South Wales State Transit Authority. QUT's Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) is a $70 million research facility built to facilitate collaboration between researchers from health, biomedical engineering and biomedical science.

Community Focus

Strengthening Australia's ability to improve the quality of life is one of the aims in establishing research centres and health programs. Recent examples in the local community have been the Dementia Research Centre for Brisbane with federal funding, Palliative Care Programs, and the new Wound Healing Community Outreach Service. The QUT Health Clinics provide the community with quality and affordable health services. These facilities keep the Faculty engaged with the community whilst also providing students with valuable real world experience.

Construction of a multi-million dollar Health and Recreation Centre at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village also means the Faculty will be at the core of a significant health hub for the Brisbane community.

Industry Partnerships and Collaboration

The Faculty is constantly engaging with external partners in its teaching and learning and research activities to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Strategic health projects create partnerships with industry to improve the health of the community both locally and globally.

Globalisation is re-shaping the world and the Faculty plays an active part in sharing positive and practical solutions. Examples of projects which continue to build on our international partnerships are the Shanghai Senior Hospital Management Study Program and the Vietnam Public Health Program.

Mission

The QUT Faculty of Health aims to make significant contributions to the improvement of human health and to the development of Australia’s healthcare policy and services through our teaching, research and service activities. PDF Document Strategic Vision Statement
