The Human Movement Studies Orientation Camp provides an opportunity for first year students to socialise with their peers and the assisting staff and fourth-year students. The School believes that this is an excellent method of minimising the social isolation that can be felt in a large university.
The camp is for a period of three days, and venues have included such destinations as the Numinbah Valley, Moreton Island, Noosa Wilderness Camp and most recently Luther Heights at Coolum. At the end of the camp, students know approximately 30 people extremely well, another 30 or 40 by their first names, and everyone else well enough to speak to when they see them in the library or in the refectory. Activities include orienteering, beach games, initiative games, kayaking and sand events.
The School also supports an active student group called the "Movers and Educators". This group comprises of human movement students and education students studying physical education. The group assists during orientation activities, holds regular BBQs, has frequent social outings and organises the end of year "Movers and Shakers" Ball.
