The School of Human Movement Studies at QUT is one of the leading schools of its type in Australia. It is one of five schools within the Faculty of Health and is located at the Kelvin Grove campus, which is situated in easy reach of the heart of the city.

Human Movement Studies play an increasingly important role in today's society, as the abilty to move is essential for quality of life, whether it be for:

Educational Programs

The School offers undergraduate and postgraduate units in the fields of exercise and sports science, and physical and health education. The number of students enrolled in Masters and Doctoral programs is increasing, and the School also contributes to the Health Faculty's Master of Health Science and Master of Applied Science by research and thesis programs. Our doctoral students are making valuable contributions to research, in both theoretical and through the Human Movement Studies Clinic special groups.

Human Movement Studies Research

The School of Human Movement Studies has an enviable reputation in multidisciplinary research. Activity encompasses both pure and applied research, and the School maintains research links both nationally and internationally. The range of projects has expanded in line with increases in research staff and postgraduate research activity.

Community Interactions

In addition to the traditional academic pursuits of research and teaching, the School has established strong interactions with various professional groups and the community at large, thus contributing to the development of appropriate career structures for its graduates.

 

Professional Associations


The School of Human Movement Studies is represented in the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) through the appointment of Professor Tony Parker as Vice-President of Sport Science and Dr. Keith Gilbert as an Executive Board Member. Professor Tony Parker also represents the School in the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) as an Elected Member.
