Jenny Fox's Experience in Nanjing, China
![]()
Our trip to Nanjing in 2007 was a great experience—a wonderful opportunity to learn about nursing and the health care system in China, as well as about the culture and the life of nursing students in China.
We were given the opportunity to visit many different departments (wards) at the three hospitals we went to over the two week period. These included ICU, Emergency, Cardiac, Renal, ENT, Liver Transplant, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and even the VIP Sick Room! We were fortunate to be in the delivery rooms when babies were being delivered and a mother was being stitched after a caesarean. We also had the opportunity to experience acupuncture, cupping and massage, as well as observe the pharmacists preparing prescriptions in the traditional Chinese pharmacy.
This was such a great experience. I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to not only see first hand the 'world of nursing' in China, but also to represent QUT and to have been welcomed in such a warm and friendly manner in each of the hospitals we visited.
