About the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre - Carers and Consumers
The Dementia Collaborative Research Centre – Carers and Consumers (DCRC-CC), based at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), is one of three Dementia Collaborative Research Centres established with Australian Government funding.
These centres are an Australian Government initiative under Dementia: A National Health Priority. This initiative is an innovative plan to enhance the assessment and care of people with dementia and their families.
The Primary Dementia Collaborative Research Centre is based at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and focuses on Assessment and Better Care Outcomes. The centre based at Australian National University (ANU) focuses on Prevention, Risk Reduction and Early Detection.
The centres’ aims are to enhance the quality of assessment in care by translating research into practice. All DCRC’s are collaborative partnerships and the DCRC-CC based at QUT is a collaborative partnership with:
- ACEBAC at La Trobe University
- Alzheimer’s Australia
- Curtin University
- Griffith University
- Hammond Care
The foci of the DCRC-CC research is on carers, providers and social aspects of dementia, with the key objective of promoting increased dementia research and improving services for people with dementia, their carers and family.

The EADTSC was established in July 2006 as part of the Australian Government’s Dementia Initiative and is led by the University of Wollongong (NSW) in partnership with:
- Queensland University of Technology (QLD)
- Griffith University (QLD)
- HammondCare (NSW)
- UnitingCare: Ageing (NSW/ACT)
- Blue Care (QLD)
- RSL Care (QLD)
Under its funding agreement with the Australian Government, the EADTSC provides dementia education and training services to metropolitan, regional, rural and remote areas of Queensland, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. To facilitate the delivery of services across this large geographical area, two EADTSC offices have been established:
- EADTSC (QLD) office is located within the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the Queensland University of Technology (i.e., the QLD node leader for the EADTSC).
- EADTSC (NSW/ACT) office is located within the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Indigenous Health (in conjunction with the Centre for Health Initiatives) at the University of Wollongong (i.e., the EADTSC lead partner).
The dementia education and training activities developed and undertaken by the EADTSC are designed to target health professionals who have tertiary qualifications and/or who are seeking tertiary qualifications. This includes a focus on the following professional groups: (1) nurses, (2) medical practitioners; (3) social workers; (4) occupational and diversional therapists; (5) psychologists; and (6) physiotherapists.
The EADTSC focuses on the development of specialised dementia education and training opportunities that:
- are designed to increase the number of health professionals specifically trained in dementia care; and
- are supported by coordination and promotional activities that raise the profile of dementia studies. In particular, the EADTSC delivers services coordinated under seven core activities:
- Undergraduate content
- Postgraduate studies
- Scholarships
- Work-based placements
- Clinical workshops
- Guest lectures
- Research and consultancy
