An Evaluation of the Statewide Cancer Care Coordination Program

The Statewide Cancer Care Coordination Program was established four years ago and Queensland Health has determined that an evaluation of the Program is now due. This project will evaluate the role of the Cancer Care Coordinators (CCCs) in Queensland and Queensland Health has commissioned researchers from QUT to undertake this evaluation.
This evaluation seeks to answer the following research questions:
Role:
- What are the different roles of Cancer Care Coordinators within Queensland Health?
- What part of the journey should the Cancer Care Coordination role be targeted towards?
- Is the Cancer Care Coordination role a cost effective way of coordinating care and enabling patients to access Multidisciplinary Care?
Models of Care:
- What are the different models of Cancer Care Coordination used in the program and the merits of these models?
- Do the models support the cultural and geographic needs of the populations that they service?
Outcome:
- Has the Cancer Care Coordination role improved the experience of patients?
- What should the governance and support structures for Cancer Care Coordination services include?
- What are the enablers and barriers to the Cancer Care Coordination role in operating effectively within Queensland Health?
To enable a comprehensive evaluation, data will be collected from Cancer Care Coordinators, patients, carers, Clinicians (including Allied Health staff) and Managers.
