Welcome to your web site!
The staff of the Women's Wellness Program Study have created this web site to provide information about the study, to update you on the progress of the study and to contribute to the knowledge and health of women who are participating in the study.
The Women's Wellness Program is a continuation from a study conducted in 2003 by Dr Debra Anderson and Vicki Kain which obtained remarkable results in participant's health and wellbeing. This study has a similar focus to the previous program, however it specifically targets midlife women who have a chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes. The Women's Wellness Program aims to set in place healthy lifestyle habits to improve the health of women who suffer from a chronic disease. A 12-week journal is given and continuous support from nursing staff as well as regular nursing interviews are conducted to evaluate the progress of participants.
We really do treasure the partnership that we have with you, and hope we can learn about the menopausal transition and the effects of chronic diseases that will benefit succeeding generations this is all thanks to you! |
From the first study we learned the importance of women realizing that there are other ways (with or without hormone replacement therapy) to control their menopausal symptoms, and to prevent heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis. Research has revealed that some definite lifestyle behaviours can have positive effects specifically on menopausal symptoms and for womens health in general.
This study has been developed because the research team feels there is a need for health promotion programs to specifically target women in their later years who have a chronic disease to maximize the quality of their life into the future.
As you have agreed to participate in this study, we can see you are right behind us in this thinking!
