The School has an international reputation for conducting research in optometry and vision science. Most of its research is conducted through the Vision Improvement Domain of the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI)
. It provides a
focus for optometric research and development activities at QUT. The facilities are unique in Queensland, providing an important resource for
the community, industry, government and the eye care professions.
An extensive network of collaborative research partners has been established between the School of Optometry and Vision Science, the Vision Improvement Domain of IHBI and similar organisations, both within Australia and overseas. Our staff visit and work at other research institutions, and we in turn have hosted numerous leading international researchers.
Staff are frequently invited to lecture at state, national and international conferences and seminars, and are major providers of continuing education programs.
Postgraduate research studies leading to the degrees Master of Applied Science and Doctor of Philosophy are offered through the School of Optometry and Vision Science.
