The School of Public Health at QUT has primarily worked with Public Sector
Organisations, to design programs customised to the needs of the employers and
their staff. The university and the employer undertake a collaborative process
to ensure the learning is relevant and focused. This achieves the goals of the
organisation while maintaining the academic integrity required of a university
award course.
These courses are delivered in an external mode to ensure students throughout
the state are provided the same opportunities and access to further study. Within
the external mode there are various forms of delivery such as print only, online
only, or a flexible delivery that may involve both an on campus phase as well
as either print or on line. There is an acknowledgement that workplace learning
is also invaluable, and as such, some courses include clinical placements as
an important component of the course.
All programs are designed to articulate into other programs offered within the
School of Public Health enabling students to continue with their study if they
so choose.
Queensland Ambulance Service programs:
Note: These programs are only open to Queensland Health or Queensland Ambulance Service employees.
Bachelor of Health Science
(Emergency Health Services)
QUT’s Bachelor of Health Science (Emergency Health Services) was developed following extensive consultation with the Queensland Ambulance Service. Students undertake core studies in public health, a major in the area of health science, and choose their minor from areas of clinical science, education, research, or an extended major in health science.
Graduate Certificate in Ambulance Management
The Graduate Certificate in Ambulance Management is designed to provide formal education in management to front line ambulance managers to better equip them to meet the demands of an increasingly professional service. This course is aimed at officers in charge of stations, area mangers, executives, education officers and communication supervisors employed by the ambulance services.
Graduate Diploma in Intensive Care Paramedic Practice
The Queensland Ambulance Service comprises mostly paramedics and other specifically trained professional staff. Intensive Care Paramedics are qualified and experienced paramedics who undertake the Graduate Diploma in Intensive Care Paramedic Practice in order to work at a more advanced clinical level. This course is an eight unit program consisting of both an on-campus component in each of two semesters and a large work integrated learning component in two semesters.
To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants should hold an appropriate Bachelor Degree from a recognised university and have successfully completed the QAS Student Intensive Care Paramedic selection process.
