Focus
A major goal of the School of Public Health at Queensland University of Technology is to advance the knowledge and practice of population heath care through excellence and innovation in research. Our mission is to conduct both basic and applied research that promotes the development, delivery, evaluation and dissemination of innovative and effective public health interventions and practice, for the benefit of the community.
Researchers within the School of Public Health are supported in their endeavours through their membership within the Institute for Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI).
Research activity within the School focuses on a broad range of public health issues, with many of our researchers recognised as being leaders nationally and internationally in their fields. Major programs of research in the School are:
- Youth Health and Well-being
- Social and Economic Inequalities in Health
- Chronic Disease Prevention and Management
- Healthy Aging
- Health Services and Workforce
- Environmental Health
- Disaster and Emergency Services
The School of Public Health has developed a strong national and international reputation for its excellent research training opportunities for Honours, Masters and Doctoral students.
Objectives
The major objectives within the School's research plan are to:
- Foster an environment that facilitates high-quality research and research training;
- Promote and further the Queensland, national and international research efforts with respect to the development, implementation and application of innovative public health research and evaluation;
- Develop and enhance collaborative and cross-disciplinary research addressing complex population health issues;
- Increase quality research funding and findings, with a specific emphasis on analytic research and intervention studies in community settings; and
- Promote research training opportunities in public health for postgraduate students, staff and other public health professionals.
Research collaborations that involve commercialisation of QUT intellectual property, technology transfer or other QUT intellectual property transactions are managed by qutbluebox, the commercialisation company for QUT.
