International Health Practical Placements in Vietnam, Malaysia and China
Helen Stephens' Student Experience in Hanoi, Vietnam, 2007
Students enrolled in the BHlthSc will complete a professional practice unit/s, placements or fieldwork as part of their degree.
Final year public health undergraduate students, who have successfully completed the unit PUB565 International Health, will have the opportunity to participate in professional practice abroad in their final semester. This program provides hands on experience to students with a particular interest in international public health.
In 2008 the “Vice Chancellor Outbound Student Mobility Grant” will match funding from the School of Public Health to provide partial support for up to 15 students to attend international work experience placements in Vietnam, Malaysia and China. This program has been made possible by the international relationships developed through the International Health Program project and research activities.

Bachelor of Health Science Podiatry Placements in Singapore

The Bachelor of Health Science (Podiatry) program in the School of Public Health has had a long and successful association with the Ministry of Health, the hospitals, and polyclinics in Singapore. Podiatry graduands have been employed in the hospitals, and polyclinics primarily to combat the lower limb complications associated with diabetes.
Lecture tours and short courses have been provided by the QUT podiatry staff in collaboration with personnel in Singapore. Podiatry students have the opportunity to apply for placement in Singapore during their final year to gain experience of living and working in a multi-cultural society with the prospect of applying for employment on graduation.
More recently, graduates from the podiatry program have been successful when seeking employment in hospitals in Hong Kong. This success provides an opportunity for future collaboration similar to that of Singapore.
