The School of Public Health and Social Work’s research activity focuses on a broad range of public health and social issues, and many of our researchers are recognised as leaders in their fields, both nationally and internationally.
We have two goals:
- To advance the knowledge and practice of population healthcare through delivering excellent, innovative research.
- To improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable groups by contributing to new knowledge that informs social policy and the practice of social work and human service practitioners.

Public Health:
- Youth health and well-being
- Social and economic inequalities in health

- Health services and workforce

- Disaster and emergency services.
Social Work and Human Services:
- Children and young people: including issues of child safety; professional practice and citizenship.
- Social exclusion: including the needs of specific communities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander; migrant and refugee; lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender; rural and remote; as well as exclusionary practices related to public space.
- People with disabilities: including ageing of people with disabilities as well as their carers; social relationships and arts based practice.
- Workforce issues in human services: including education, training, recruitment and retention of human service professionals; workforce trends and policies.
