Welcome to the School of Psychology and Counselling
The School of Psychology and Counselling is a young and energetic school that has already established an excellent national reputation for teaching in psychology and counselling. We are highly regarded for the professionalism, dedication and friendliness of our teaching staff, and some of our academics have won national teaching awards. We have also developed a wide range of research areas of expertise in which we have a strong international reputation. We have particular strength in real world applied research dedicated to solving pressing social problems.
For example, the school has the internationally renowned Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q)
. QUT has become sought after for the study of Psychology and Counselling in Brisbane and our student numbers have grown at a rapid rate with over 700 continuing students.

Why Psychology and Counselling at QUT?

We are unique in Queensland in offering a workplace unit in our undergraduate program. Many of our staff are registered and practising psychologists. Students can choose elective streams in a number of important areas. For example we have a strong elective stream in counselling because we have a long standing history of teaching a prestigious counselling program. Our staff are dedicated researchers and are committed to research that solves important health, social and psychological problems. The collective vision of our staff is for the promotion of human wellbeing as the cornerstone of our endeavours.

The School of Psychology and Counselling's research centre, The Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q)
, is one of the leading centres in Australia dedicated to research, education and outreach activities in road safety, and is a vital player in the international pursuit of road safety.
CARRS-Q works collaboratively with strong networks in the road safety and injury prevention fields.
Our staff and graduates take part in influential research projects and collaborations with organisations across the country as well as significant research projects and community projects.
