Purpose
The collection of assessment instruments available in the School of Psychology and Counselling Test Library is intended to support teaching and research in the school and clinical assessment in the Psychology Clinic and the Family Therapy and Counselling Clinic. It should be noted that the Psychology Test Library materials are not be used to subsidise private practice by academic staff or students.
Facilities
The library, has now returned to room L403A, (ph. 3138-4709), and presently houses a wide collection of psychological tests, books and videos. These include at least one copy of all major and some minor tests from each of the principle domains of assessment in relation to normal and abnormal, adult and child populations. Aside from tests, there is a reference collection of Honours theses. A complete list of current test holdings is available in the library, from the web site, as well as the fourth-year notice board located on 3rd Floor L Block.

Clientele and Borrowing privileges
The primary clientele is academic staff and postgraduate students of the School of Psychology and Counselling. Since many psychological tests are restricted to authorised users, all clients will be assigned to particular authorisation levels when registering for library membership. Borrowing will be confined to authorised users for tests whenever ACER or Harcourt Assessment restrictions apply.
Postgraduate students may also register as users and borrow any unrestricted test. Students needing to use tests beyond their level of authorisation will require covering letters from their supervisor, who must be an authorised user at the appropriate level. Covering letters from supervisors must indicate what specific tests are required for purposes of study, training, or research and confirming that adequate training and supervision in tests administration and interpretation will be provided for the particular test or tests in question.
Borrowing Procedure
Patrons of the Psychology Test Library need to be registered before any test is allowed out of the library. Patrons will be provided with a copy of the 'Membership and Loan Agreement'.
All patrons need to provide evidence of personal identification (i.e., staff or student card) before tests may be viewed or borrowed.
Once these conditions are fulfilled, the patron can borrow items by giving the Test Librarian their staff or student card and asking the Test Librarian to scan the item out to them.
Loan Period
The normal loan period will be 3-4 days, although extensions may be negotiated with the Test Librarian. The duration of the loan may be affected by the demand for the particular item in question, and the Psychology Test Library management reserve the right to recall tests at short notice.
Collection Development
There are some funds presently available for collection development. All library users are invited to make suggestions for additions to the Psychology Test Library collection and all requests will be considered by the Psychology Test Library Coordinator. Wherever possible, requests from academic staff will be met although, of necessity, priority will be given to the acquisition of items required for purposes of teaching and for research-in-progress.
Honours, Postgraduate Students and Supervisors
Student users of the Psychology Test Library and their supervisors should be aware that there are only limited funds available to support thesis related research and that these funds do not derive from the Psychology Test Library budget. While the Psychology Test Library can provide test manuals, test kits, and the like, students should not expect the library to supply bulk orders of consumable items to be used in test administration (e.g., response forms/scoring sheets).
In particular, in 2001, psychology honours research will be subsidised to a maximum of $500.00 per student. This amount may be spent in part or in total on published test materials and the library will debit the appropriate account within the school. Any expenditure in excess of the allotted $500.00 must be financed by the student. It should be noted; the maximum subsidy may be subject to change each year. In the event that a test item is purchased for a research student from the fund mentioned above, the student will have to surrender the test items, scoring kit, manuals etc., to the Psychology Test Library after their data has been collected. Research masters and doctoral students should discuss issues of funding with their supervisors. Psychology Test Library staff will be happy to assist the student and/or supervisor in placing orders with relevant publishers. However, please note that delivery of test materials may take up to six weeks.
Consumable items associated with tests can be very expensive. Both supervisors and students are advised to cost any project whenever the use of published tests is contemplated. In this context, you should also be aware that all published test materials are subject to copyright.
All student users will be asked to furnish evidence of ethical clearance before tests may be borrowed.
